Blue Ridge Pkwy Closed
It has been reported that there are two sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway, between Asheville and Cherokee NC, that are now closed for construction. Two tunnels that were in need of repair have been the cause the closure.
The First Closure
The first closure began on Monday, February 13 and will remain closed until April 15. Work is being done on the Ferris Tunnel #1 which is located at milepost marker 401. This is located south of Ashville, NC and just off interstate 26 near Biltmore Forest area. The detour around this section if travel eastbound could be quite lengthy and I would recommend checking this before heading out.
The Second Closure
The second closure of the parkway is between Cherokee, NC and Maggie Valley, NC. The detour around this section should be quite easy, just follow the signs. This section of the road is closed to repair the Big Witch Tunnel which is located around mile marker 461.
Both sections of the highway are expected to open around April 15 just in time for our springtime visitors. For more information, you can contact the Blue Ridge Parkway Authority.
